What Are Custom Gutters?

Custom gutters are gutters made for one house. The crew forms them from a coil of aluminum in your driveway and cuts each piece to the length of your roof edge.

The size, the color and the spot for each downspout are picked for that house too. Nothing comes off a store shelf.

How are custom gutters made?

It starts with a flat coil of aluminum on a reel. Our crew feeds it into a gutter machine parked at your house.

Rollers inside the machine bend the flat sheet into a gutter shape. It comes out the other end as one long trough.

We cut it when it reaches the length we measured for that stretch of roof. A 40 foot roof edge gets a 40 foot gutter.

Our coil is .032 inch aluminum. That is the thickness we use on every job.

Why does cutting to length on site help?

Store gutters come in 10 foot sections. A long roof edge needs several of them, joined end to end.

Every joint is a seam, and every seam is sealed with caulk. When the caulk ages and cracks, the seam drips.

A gutter cut to the full length of the roof edge has no seams along its length. The only joints are at the corners and the end caps.

We close those joints with GeoCel sealant. Fewer joints means fewer places for water to get out.

How is the size of custom gutters picked?

We look at how much roof drains into each gutter and how steep it is. A big, steep roof sends more water, and sends it faster.

Our default is a 6 inch oversized gutter. We also fit 5 inch where the roof and the look of the house call for it.

Both sizes come out of the same machine. The size is set before the coil goes in.

What colors can custom gutters come in?

You can choose from 21 colors. Eight are standard, twelve are special order, and one is a premium color.

The eight standard colors are White, Almond, Cream, Clay, Wicker, Black, Royal Brown and Musket Brown.

Pick a color that matches your trim, your roof or your siding. You can see every option on our gutter colors page.

Where do the downspouts go on custom gutters?

Downspouts go where your yard can take the water. That spot is different on every house.

We look at which way the ground slopes. Water should land on ground that falls away from the foundation.

Next, we look at what is below each corner. Nobody wants a downspout dumping onto the front walk, the driveway or the patio steps.

Then we count how many downspouts each gutter needs. A long gutter on a big roof may need one at each end.

What else comes with custom gutters?

Each gutter hangs on QuickScrew hangers, spaced every 24 inches along its length. The screws bite into the wood behind the gutter and do not work loose like old nails.

Apron flashing goes on every install. It tucks under the shingles and laps over the back of the gutter, so water drops into the trough and not down the wood.

Every job comes with a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship.

Do custom gutters fit older Chicago homes?

Yes, and older homes are where they help most. An older house often has odd roof lines, short roof edges around bay windows, and corners that are not square.

A gutter cut on site fits each of those edges. The crew measures every stretch and forms a piece for it, one at a time.
